The thing about #hashtags is that you either get it by this time, or you still can’t figure out the sense behind them. They are either a wonderful marketing tool or an utterly useless practice. But regardless of which side you belong to regarding this social media culture phenomenon, chances are your elation or your disdain are both fueled by a fundamental lack of understanding of hashtags.

Only the cover image is more prominent, but it does not show up until you bring up your Profile. Until then your news feed is the star of the show, channeling status updates, photos, videos and links of your friends and connections. Its importance is undeniable. You get to listen in on what is happening to your connections and you are given opportunities to engage and bond with them through the platform.
